Make them love your sh*t!
We live in a world of clowncraft where media rules humanity. It controls what we do, what we eat and who we vote for. You can deny it, but you can't change anything. So what’s the winning strategy in this situation? Accept reality. Only by acknowledging the problem can we find a solution. And the only solution here is to squeeze as much as possible from the situation to your advantage.
Step one is to go public. Start posting, find your audience and use social media. But there's one little problem.
I don't know what to post
I hear that from friends all the time. They think they have nothing to share but guess what? That’s just what they believe. It’s all in their heads and it’s probably their biggest misconception. Trust me, I was there until I figured something out that changed everything and it’s going to help you too.
Nobody gives a f*ck about what you post. But they definitely care about HOW you do it.
We live in a fast paced world. We’re expected to get things done quick, switch jobs all the time and keep up with tech that’s changing every second. There's literally no time to chill. Even when I take a coffee break I’m still thinking about work, to-dos and what’s next. Half the time I don’t even taste my coffee. I just see the empty cup and know it’s time to get back to work. So do you really think someone cares about WHAT you post? We’re addicts of stories and shorts, cultists of TikTok and Instagram. The time you've got to engage a viewer is less than a finger swipe.
0.2 to 0.5 seconds. That's how long it takes to swipe through stories according to ChatGPT. Just imagine that ridiculous number. Do you think that’s enough to catch WHAT you post? No. Absolutely not unless your message is highly pre-processed.
We live in a world of highly processed food. It’s cheap, it’s tasty and it gives us quick energy but it's sh*t. It’s shi*t but we love it. Why do we eat it? Media, marketing and ads work insanely hard to trigger our emotions. They know how to swallow and digest their message, serving it straight to our mouths so we enjoy the taste and remember it for years. We remember taglines from years ago like "Think Different," "Just Do It" and "Red Bull Gives You Wings." When we think about burgers we picture a Big Mac. When we think about a Coke we see the frosty bottle with condensation... so refreshing, right?
That’s exactly how your post should feel. It should be tasty, simple, emotional and catchy. WHAT you’re saying doesn’t matter as much as HOW you’re saying it. It’s all about HOW you present it, HOW you serve it, HOW you show it.
I bet you all went to school or university. Even if you didn’t, you know this. There were two types of teachers. Most were boring as hell but a few were actually fun to listen to. Those teachers made you want to learn, not because you had to but because they got you hooked. How? By sparking your curiosity. These people knew how to sell their subject. They used jokes. They could break down the message into the simplest chunks. They played with your emotions, and this pattern is everywhere.
They say you need unique content. Bullsh*t. I’m into calisthenics and found this cool exercise with gymnastic rings on YouTube. But here’s the deal: I found like twenty different people showing the same exercise. Half of them have over 100k subscribers. Same exercise, same moves, same everything. What’s the difference? HOW they present it. It’s 2024. We live in the digital age. Come on, it’s almost impossible to have a unique message but you can wrap it in your own unique style.
Just the other day I saw a job ad for a Social Media Manager. For those who don’t know, that’s someone who runs your socials and posts for you or your brand. Sure that’s oversimplified but you get the point. One of the requirements was literally "Memes should be your thing." That’s a perfect hack I use too. Memes are simple, fun and super engaging. They’re your golden ticket. Memes let you say stuff you wouldn’t normally talk about seriously but in a way that hits different. Personally I’m just here to make memes for you. The text? It’s just a bonus. I don’t even expect you to read it—just enjoy the memes.
Share your thoughts. Tell us what you like, what you’re into. Share your experience, your knowledge. Tell us about your gig at McDonald’s. Tell us how to grow corn or clean pools. Show us how to write code. It doesn’t matter WHAT you share as long as you know HOW to share it. Be simple, be fun, be catchy. Make us feel something. Get us to react. Tug at our emotions.
Focus on HOW you say it and you’ll definitely hack your success!
